The Audience Agency's State of Touring report indicates a general decline, particularly impacting smaller venues that are struggling to remain viable. While large-scale tours flourish in urban areas, smaller towns experience significant downturns, especially in dance and productions featuring emerging disabled or artists from global majority backgrounds. Financial strains have resulted in fewer programs and shortened tours. Major obstacles include escalating expenses, shifting audience preferences, and funding challenges. In 2023, numerous organizations reported financial losses.
