UK MPs Demand Independent Probe into British Museum Label Changes

Members of Parliament in the UK are calling for an independent inquiry into the British Museum following revelations about modifications to exhibit labels. Documents acquired through Freedom of Information requests and shared by Middle East Eye indicate that terms such as "Palestine," "Palestinian," and "Israeli occupation" were eliminated. The museum attributed these changes to visitor feedback, yet no actual research was performed. Internal emails suggest that these adjustments were made in response to complaints from pro-Israel groups between October and December 2024. MPs Jeremy Corbyn, Sian Berry, and Richard Burgon have urged for an investigation, with Corbyn asserting that the changes erase Palestinian history. Palestinian Ambassador Husam Zomlot criticized the museum for neglecting its historical responsibilities. The museum has yet to address these claims.
