cultural-heritage · 2026-03-14

Recent research has identified two previously unattributed artworks as creations by Michelangelo. The Royal Institute for Cultural Heritage of Belgium conducted scientific analysis on a Pietà painting, concluding it was produced by the Italian master. Separately, an independent Italian researcher published findings asserting that a marble bust of Christ located in a Roman basilica is also Michelangelo's work. These discoveries emerged through separate investigations using analytical methods to establish authorship of historical pieces.
