The Many Venices Reveals Migrant Histories of the Lagoon

The Many Venices is an initiative featuring guided walks that reinterprets Venice as a hub of cultural exchange, migration, and community, rather than merely a relic of tourism and empire. This program, which runs from June to September, is co-curated with Wetlands and hosted by Ocean Space, TBA21–Academy’s venue for artistic exploration and environmental studies. Led by cultural practitioners, researchers, and writers, the walks traverse neighborhoods, streets, workshops, and waterways, unveiling narratives that link the city to Africa, the Middle East, Bangladesh, and modern migrant groups. Through walking, participants engage in listening, uncovering the diverse layers of Venice that lie beneath its surface.
