Tanzanian Artist Precious Seronga Publishes Afro Maximalism Book Celebrating Women of Color

Precious Seronga, an emerging Tanzanian artist, has released a new publication titled 'Afro Maximalism' that explores maximalist aesthetics through the lens of African textiles and women of color. The book is organized by color psychology, with chapters dedicated to hues like blue, red, pink, and green, each representing different emotional states. Seronga's work reinterprets art historical references, such as transforming a 1975 British Vogue photograph by replacing the white model with a Black subject. Her maximalist approach combines layered patterns, vibrant colors, and collage techniques to address representation and challenge stereotypes. The publication is currently available in various London creative spaces including salons and tattoo studios. Seronga has gained recognition from organizations like La Guarimba International Film Festival and is expanding her presence through international exhibitions and collaborations.
