Silvana Trevale's 'Venezuelan Youth' captures a generation amid crisis
The book 'Venezuelan Youth' by Guest Editions showcases Silvana Trevale's ten-year photographic exploration of young Venezuelans. This monograph, designed by Rizardo Baez from Caracas, includes 93 color images taken between 2016 and 2025. Trevale initiated this work following her previous series 'Nosotras', focusing on Venezuelan women. It captures the experiences of youth amid the country's economic crisis, which has led to over seven million Venezuelans leaving their homeland. Trevale regards the project as both a tribute to her country and an investigation into Venezuelan identity. Notably, it features a portrait of a Venezuelan girl in Mexico City, defying her previous commitment to photograph only within Venezuela, and a significant image of barber Hendry styling his friend Omar's hair in Petare, who has since moved to Spain. Trevale continues to reflect on the resilience and bonds among Venezuelan youth.
