Save Venice completes conservation of 15th-century Foscari funerary monument

The conservation of the 15th-century Funerary Monument dedicated to Doge Francesco Foscari at the Basilica of Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari has been successfully completed by Save Venice. Deposed on 22 October 1457, Foscari passed away shortly thereafter, garnering public sympathy. On 4 November 1457, his body was transported across Venice beneath a canopy of cloth gold, accompanied by the new doge Pasquale Malipiero, the Signoria, clergy, nobles, scuole grandi, and citizens. Following a funeral oration delivered by historian Bernardo Giustinian, he was laid to rest. His wife, Marina Nani, commissioned the tomb, which is located on the right-hand wall of the Frari's chancel.
