Russian Strike Damages Kherson Regional Art Museum

On Thursday, a Russian assault struck the Kherson Regional Art Museum in Ukraine, igniting a fire that caused significant damage to the structure and its artworks. The State Emergency Service of Ukraine confirmed that there were no reported injuries; however, historic plasterwork, parquet floors, furniture, books, and the building's electrical and heating systems were all destroyed, as noted by United24, a government-operated platform. This museum had already suffered looting during the 2022 Russian invasion, with over 15,000 pieces taken to the Central Museum of Taurida in Simferopol, Crimea. The drone strikes were part of a broader attack on Kyiv, where 214 aerial targets were launched, with Ukrainian air defenses intercepting 186, leading to 13 casualties and damage to various facilities. The ongoing destruction of cultural sites in Ukraine includes a recent drone strike that obliterated an 18th-century wooden church in Beryslav. There has been no update from the museum or emergency services regarding its current condition.
