Restored walkway reopens at Castello Svevo in Porto Recanati

A €915,000 restoration of the Castello Svevo in Porto Recanati, Marche, has fully reopened the medieval fortress's walkway and, for the first time, granted access to its main tower. The project, funded by the municipal administration through the regional Marche Infrastrutture 2032 program and executed by Edileco Telarucci, included a new staircase, painted steel parapets, LED lighting integrated into the parapets, and architectural lighting for the adjacent art gallery facade. Conservation work involved cleaning, brick consolidation, scuci e cuci repairs, and repointing under the Soprintendenza's guidelines. Built in the 13th century after Frederick II granted Recanati the coastline, the castle was designed to defend against pirate raids. Its main tower, originally quadrangular and now octagonal, dates to the initial construction; a second tower was added in the early 1400s. The castle now houses the municipal art gallery (from the Attilio Moroni collection, with a room dedicated to local painter Biagio Biagetti), a 3,000-square-meter courtyard used as an arena for summer concerts, and a permanent archaeological exhibition on the Roman city of Potentia. The walkway offers views of the Adriatic coast and leads to Monte Conero and its park. Mayor Andrea Michelini stated the restoration is an investment in culture and tourism. The Museo del Mare is also nearby.
