Restored Scarpa Wing Reopens at Canova's Gypsotheca in Possagno

The Scarpa Wing at the Gypsotheca Antonio Canova in Possagno has partially reopened after a year-long restoration. The intervention focused on the most deteriorated section—the trapezoidal 'telescope' aimed at the Three Graces—and cost €460,000, funded by the Italian Ministry of Culture (MiC). Work was carried out by the Soprintendenza of Belluno, Padua, and Treviso in collaboration with the Municipality of Possagno and IUAV University. Exterior improvements included a new rain cover and water drainage system; interior work involved new plasters, anti-shatter film on windows, and rust treatments. One of Scarpa's original display cases was dismantled and reassembled to create a reference model for future restorations. Director Moira Mascotto called the reopening a fundamental step for the museum, restoring a dialogue between Scarpa's architecture and Canova's sculptures. Built 1955–1957 for the bicentennial of Canova's birth, the wing is the only museum Carlo Scarpa ever worked on and is considered one of his most complete works. The restoration sets the stage for extending the intervention to the entire Scarpa Wing in coming years.
