Patrick Ball Makes Broadway Debut in Becky Shaw After The Pitt Success

Patrick Ball debuted on Broadway this week as Andrew in Gina Gionnfrido's 2009 Pulitzer finalist Becky Shaw, directed by Trip Cullman. The production features Madeline Brewer as Becky and Alden Ehrenreich as Max. Ball's Broadway arrival follows his breakout television role as Dr. Frank Langdon in The Pitt, which premiered its second season in January. His character, a doctor who stole drugs from a Pittsburgh hospital, created complex audience reactions toward colleague Trinity Santos. Ball previously worked for over a decade in regional theater, specializing in brash characters. He initially studied broadcast journalism before switching to drama, landing a lead role in George Bernard Shaw's Man and Superman during college. To support himself before his television breakthrough, Ball worked multiple jobs including corporate role-playing seminars at Goldman Sachs, Blackrock, and Blackstone, where he simulated being fired. He also served as a wardrobe assistant for And Just Like That... and considered careers with the FBI or Merchant Marines. Ball paid off $80,000 in student debt three months into The Pitt. He believes theater's future depends on attracting younger audiences, citing Robert O'Hara's contemporary adaptations and Jeremy O. Harris's work at Williamstown Theater Festival as positive examples. Ball met his girlfriend Elysia Roorbach while performing in a Miami play directed by Moisés Kaufman.
