Norway Opens National 22 July Memorial in Oslo
On July 19, 2026, Norway unveiled its National 22 July Memorial, named Upholding, in the heart of Oslo, just ahead of the 15th anniversary of the tragic 2011 terrorist attacks that claimed 77 lives. Designed by Matias Faldbakken, a notable Norwegian artist and writer, the memorial is located at Johan Nygaardsvolds plass within the newly rebuilt Government Quarter. The inauguration was graced by Crown Prince Haakon, government officials, survivors, families of victims, members of the Workers’ Youth League (AUF), and the general public. The event, which featured music performed by ULD, was opened by Minister of Digitalisation and Public Governance Karianne Tung.
