NAIDOC Week 2026: Curated First Nations Screen Programming

NAIDOC Week 2026 has commenced in Australia with the theme '50 Years of Deadly', focusing on First Nations culture. Screen NSW, Screen Queensland, and the ABC have released curated programming slates of TV series, documentaries, and films. Highlights include 'Sweet Country' (2017), a period western set in 1929; 'All My Friends Are Racist' (2021), a series about black millennials calling out racism; 'Strait to the Plate' (2021), a documentary series on Torres Strait Islander cuisine; five episodes of 'Bluey' translated into Yolŋu Matha for NAIDOC Week 2026; 'Incarceration Nation' (2021), examining Indigenous incarceration; 'Mystery Road: Origin' (2022), a series about a police officer in an outback town; 'Mabo' (2012), the story of Eddie Koiki Mabo; 'Firestarter: The Story of Bangarra' (2020), about the Bangarra dance group; 'Reckless' (2025), a comedy series about a hit-and-run cover-up; 'YURLU | COUNTRY' (2025), a documentary on the Wittenoom asbestos mines; and 'One Mind, One Heart' (2024), about the Yirrkala Bark petitions. The event runs until 12 July 2026.
