Museum für Islamische Kunst Completes Restoration of Historic Bait Wakil House in Aleppo

The Museum für Islamische Kunst has finished a pilot restoration project for the historic Bait Wakil courtyard house in Aleppo's Old City, completed on October 16, 2025. The 17th-century structure, which originally housed the 'Aleppo Room' now in the museum's collection, was restored over 1.5 years in collaboration with the Greek Orthodox Church and local specialists. The initiative trained Syrian craftspeople in traditional techniques and used over 2,500 documents from the Syrian Heritage Archive to guide reconstruction. The project aims to preserve cultural heritage and serve as a model for rebuilding other historic sites in Aleppo.
