Museo Cerralbo Launches Online Catalogue of Engravings
The Museo Cerralbo has published a monographic online catalogue titled "Grabado en la mirada" (Engraved in the Gaze), dedicated to its collection of prints. The catalogue, hosted on the CER.es platform, digitizes over 1,500 works, including engravings, diagrams, maps, plans, and historical photographs related to print collecting. It results from years of technical work, cataloging, and research on one of the museum's least-known collections. The digital resource features specialized cataloging sheets by Cerralbo researchers and scientific texts on topics such as master engravers, art reproduction, cartography, and the historical relationship between prints and periodicals. For the first time, watermarks are included as part of the accessible graphic documentation, aiding paper and production context studies. The catalogue originated from a temporary exhibition held at the museum in 2025, curated by Cecilia Casas Desantes, followed by a physical catalogue published by the Fundación Museo Cerralbo. It includes an advanced search engine for queries by author, cultural context, and other categories, as well as a "Collaborate" section open for specialists and researchers to contribute data in coordination with the Cerralbo technical team, aiming to be a dynamic, collaborative, and growing tool.
