Musée Français de la Carte à Jouer in Issy-les-Moulineaux to Close for Renovation

The Musée Français de la Carte à Jouer in Issy-les-Moulineaux, France, will close on August 14 for major renovations. Founded in 1997, the museum holds over 11,000 card games and ensembles from around the world, plus paintings, textiles, and objects related to games. Highlights include a mid-15th-century illuminated tarot chariot card by the Master of the Chariot of Issy, costumes for playing cards designed by André Derain for the Ballets Russes, surrealist games, revolutionary-era cards, and circular Chinese and Indian examples. The museum also preserves part of the donation of Paul Cruet, a molder and assistant to Auguste Rodin. Before closing, it offers a summer program with escape games, card-making workshops, and a pop-up restaurant on its terrace. The museum is unique in France and located near Jean Dubuffet's Tour aux figures.
