Musée d'Orsay 40th Anniversary: 1kg Gold Coin Featuring Van Gogh and Monet

In celebration of its 40th anniversary on December 1, 2026, and the centenary of Claude Monet, the Musée d'Orsay has collaborated with the Monnaie de Paris to launch a special coin collection. At the heart of this collection is a 1-kilogram gold coin with a purity of 999‰, crafted by Joaquin Jimenez. The front side displays five renowned masterpieces: Vincent van Gogh's "Self-Portrait" (1889), François Pompon's "Polar Bear" (1923-1933), Édouard Manet's "The Fifer" (1866), Claude Monet's "Woman with a Parasol" (1886), and Edgar Degas's "Little Dancer of Fourteen Years." The reverse side highlights the architecture of the former Gare d'Orsay. Only around ten of these 1kg gold coins will be minted, in addition to a wider array of gold and silver coins. The Monnaie de Paris will also reissue a rectangular silver medal designed by Gae Aulenti in 1981.
