Mónica Suberville: Weaving Networks in Mexican Architecture

Glocal Design Magazine's 89th edition, 'Visionarias del espacio,' features 15 female architects and interior designers expanding the conversation on architecture, design, and interiorism in Mexico. The issue includes two collector covers by Prince Láuder and Jimena Estíbaliz. Among the featured professionals is Mónica Suberville, who transforms architectural practice into resistance and collective action. After graduating from Parsons School of Design in 2005 and training at LTL Architects in New York, she returned to Monterrey to collaborate with Agustín Landa Ruiz Loba, forming Landa Suberville. The studio created projects like Casa del Desierto and Casa del Bosque. Suberville identifies three turning points: establishing her own practice, reconnecting with Landa as a partner, and founding Arquitectas.mx with Laura Gómez. This digital platform, born from a need to increase women's visibility in a male-dominated profession, now supports over 200 professionals. Suberville addresses wage disparities, noting women earn 30 to 50 percent less for the same job. She balances motherhood, entrepreneurship, academia, and activism, sharing parenting responsibilities with her partner. The future of Arquitectas.mx aims to integrate a gender perspective into Mexican urban planning. Her message to younger generations emphasizes the importance of support networks.
