Milwaukee Road 33C Locomotive Undergoes Electrical Rewiring Restoration

Restoration work has commenced on the Milwaukee Road 33C, a 1956 EMD E9A passenger locomotive, to replace its deteriorating electrical wiring. The existing insulation has become brittle, prompting a complete rewiring to ensure system reliability. The project involves removing old wiring from raceways throughout the engine room, steam generator room, and cabinets, with plans to reinstall Dynamic Brake systems and address additional maintenance needs. Photos document progress, including wire removal, cabinet preparations, and cleaning of accumulated debris. The restoration team is also rewiring start stations and incorporating previously acquired transfer switches. Updates will continue, and contributions are being accepted through the Diesel Department Locomotive Restoration Fund.
