MAXXI opens public restoration site for Remo Salvadori's 'La Stanza dei Verticali'

The MAXXI museum in Rome has opened a public restoration workshop for Remo Salvadori's sculptural installation 'La Stanza dei Verticali', as part of the 'In Restauro' program. The work, acquired by the museum in 2012, consists of eleven autonomous elements: five square copper plates, three curved cylindrical sheets, and three steel rings, created between 1995 and 2000. The restoration is carried out by the Istituto Centrale per il Restauro through the Scuola di Alta Formazione e Studio ICR, with students working under tutor supervision. The open workshop runs until July 17, 2026, in the Corner D space, accessible from Tuesday to Friday, 11-13 and 14-17. The intervention addresses conservation issues that were already present when the work entered the collection, focusing on cleaning and treating the metal surfaces. Salvadori, who died recently at age 79, conceived the piece as a modulation of the Pythagorean theorem, using copper and steel to symbolize the union of opposites.
