Martine's 400 COVID-19 Drawings: A Personal Artistic Response to the Pandemic

Martine created a series of 400 drawings titled 'Martine face au covid 19' during the COVID-19 pandemic, produced daily each morning in her kitchen. The artist described the process as allowing her inner child to express itself, akin to art therapy, using materials like markers, paint, and cut paper on an A3 sketchbook without premeditation. Titles and meanings were assigned retrospectively after the drawings were completed. Four selected works include 'Monsieur et Madame Covid en promenade' from March 29, 2020, depicting the virus as arrogant figures with green heads made from Cetelem advertisements, linking health and consumer credit crises; 'Collyres diversifiés' from June 13, 2020, which the artist later realized mirrored her state during a 1980s seminar with her mentor; 'En alerte' from December 26, 2020, inspired by an encounter with a highly sensitive individual; and 'Barreaux intérieurs' from March 4, 2021, exploring psychological themes with a quote from Tim Ingold. The collection was printed in March 2022 by www.copy-media.net in Canéjan, France. This project represents a personal, introspective artistic documentation of the pandemic era, highlighting themes of mental health, societal critique, and unconscious expression.
