Martha Graham's Centennial Celebrated with New Season, Exhibition, and Documentary

This spring marks the centennial celebration of the Martha Graham Dance Company, kicking off its season on April 8 with five pivotal pieces, such as Chronicle (1936), Night Journey (1947), and Appalachian Spring (1944). The festivities will also feature a PBS documentary narrated by Meryl Streep, a photography book from NYC Dance Project, and an exhibition at the New York Public Library. Graham, born in Pittsburgh in 1894, transformed modern dance and worked alongside notable figures like Isamu Noguchi, Halston, Alexander Calder, and Andy Warhol. Her legacy influences dancers such as Twyla Tharp, Merce Cunningham, and Paul Taylor, with current dancer Lloyd Knight, choreographer Kyle Abraham, fashion designer Donna Karan, and sculptor Senga Nengudi showcasing her enduring impact.
