Manfred Honeck Extends Pittsburgh Symphony Contract Through 2032

The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra has decided to extend Manfred Honeck's contract as music director through the 2032/33 season, which will make his tenure an impressive 25 years. This achievement sets him apart as the longest-serving music director in the orchestra's 131-year history. Honeck began his role in the 2008/09 season and has led significant artistic growth, including acclaimed recordings and European tours. Notably, the orchestra is the only American ensemble to have played at the Salzburg Festival four times. Under Honeck, the Pittsburgh Live! series received twelve Grammy nominations and won three, including one for Shostakovich's Fifth Symphony. His efforts in promoting new works and collaborating with top artists have also been noteworthy.
