Major Genomic Study Redefines Avian Evolutionary Relationships

A comprehensive genomic analysis published in Nature has produced a revised evolutionary tree for modern birds. Researchers from the University of Copenhagen, University of California San Diego, and Zhejiang University analyzed over 360 bird species as part of the Bird 10,000 Genomes Project. The study reveals that most contemporary bird groups emerged within 5 million years following dinosaur extinction around 66 million years ago.
