Madrid's Royal Palace Roof Renovation Progresses with Energy Efficiency Focus

Patrimonio Nacional is advancing the final phase of roof renovation work at Madrid's Royal Palace, a project funded with €7.5 million from Spain's Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan. The initiative, covering approximately 4,600 square meters including the San Gil Wing area, began in March 2025 and is scheduled for completion by mid-2026. The comprehensive intervention aims to reduce non-renewable primary energy consumption by 38% through improved insulation, envelope upgrades, and modernized climate control systems while respecting the building's original architecture. Additional projects at the historic site, totaling €18.7 million in funding, include visitor center improvements, LED lighting installation, and restoration of the Royal Armory and Villanueva Tunnel.
