Lost Art Press Announces Publication of Peter Follansbee's Book on 17th-Century Essex County Cupboard

Lost Art Press is preparing to release a new book titled '17th-Century Essex County Cupboard' by woodworker and researcher Peter Follansbee. The publisher uploaded the interior files to the printer on Tuesday, with the cover expected to be finalized soon. The book documents Follansbee's construction of two 17th-century cupboards, a project he began in early 2021. Follansbee submitted 40,000 words of text and 1,200 images in January 2025, resulting in a 200+ page volume. The publication provides a detailed account of historical furniture-making techniques from 17th-century New England, covering processes from sourcing materials to final assembly. Follansbee has dedicated his career to studying and replicating 17th-century joinery, including a 20-year tenure as a joiner at Plimoth Plantations (now Plimoth Patuxet Museums) in Plymouth, Massachusetts. The book's foreword is written by Christopher Schwarz, publisher at Lost Art Press, who describes the work as a 'tour de force' that offers unprecedented insight into historical woodworking practices. The publication is anticipated to be available by the end of May 2026.
