Lemóniz: Graphic Novel Reimagines ETA Nuclear Plant Tragedy

A new graphic novel titled 'Lemóniz' by writer Florentino Flórez and illustrator Guillermo Sanna recreates one of the most significant episodes of ETA's violent years in the Basque Country. The story centers on Ángel Pascual, a nuclear engineer at the Lemóniz power plant in Vizcaya, who was killed by ETA despite knowing he was a target. Pascual is one of 853 fatal victims of ETA according to Spain's Interior Ministry. The Lemóniz plant began construction in 1972 by Iberduero (later Iberdrola) but never became operational due to protests from citizen groups, environmentalists, and anti-nuclear activists, as Spain emerged from dictatorship. In the late 1970s, ETA joined these protests, leading to the plant's abandonment. The novel explores how victims of ETA have carried shame for years, giving voice to a nearly forgotten figure.
