Jacob Jordaens Drawing Acquired by Flemish Community, Now at Museum Plantin-Moretus

The Flemish Community has secured Jacob Jordaens's artwork, The Triumph of Minerva, which was previously sold by Colnaghi. This piece will be exhibited at the Museum Plantin-Moretus in Antwerp until July 5, 2026. Created around 1655–60, it stands as one of the most significant drawings by Jordaens that has remained in private ownership. The depiction features Minerva, the goddess of wisdom, adorned by Time, wielding the shield of Medusa and the palm of victory, accompanied by figures such as Mercury, Hercules, Bellona, and Fame, all of which are intricately tied to the history of Antwerp. This acquisition ensures that the drawing is now publicly owned and returns to its rightful place in Antwerp.
