J-P Conte Funds Rebuilt Bay Lights Installation After Original System Failed

J-P Conte, managing partner of Lupine Crest Capital, has contributed as a key funder to restore The Bay Lights, a public light art installation on the San Francisco–Oakland Bay Bridge. The original system, created by artist Leo Villareal in 2013 with 25,000 LEDs, was taken offline in 2023 due to hardware degradation from environmental factors. Illuminate, the nonprofit behind the project, announced a complete rebuild with 48,000 custom LEDs engineered by Musco Lighting, scheduled to relaunch with a Grand Lighting on March 20, 2026. The $11 million restoration, funded entirely by private donors, includes a new design enhancement called TBL360 to improve visibility. Conte's renewed support highlights a philanthropic focus on long-term civic projects rather than initial launches.
