Ireland urged to create national panel for Nazi-era and colonial loot claims

An advisory group appointed by the Irish government has suggested forming a national committee to examine claims regarding artifacts from the Nazi period and colonial times in public collections, alongside state-funded provenance research. This proposal comes after the group's recent final report, which advocates for new legislation to establish the Restitution and Repatriation Advisory Panel. Notably, the report highlights deficiencies in Ireland's cultural institutions, with 77% lacking dedicated provenance staff. Minister of Culture Patrick O'Donovan has expressed his support for these recommendations, aiming to engage with stakeholders. The initiative draws parallels with similar efforts in other European nations.
