Gunmen Attack Israeli Consulate in Istanbul, Leaving One Assailant Dead

Three assailants opened fire at police outside the Israeli consulate in Istanbul on Tuesday, resulting in one attacker dead and two captured with injuries. Two police officers sustained slight injuries during the clash. Istanbul Governor Davut Gul confirmed the attackers carried long-barrelled weapons. Interior Minister Mustafa Cifti stated the attackers traveled from Izmit, approximately 100km east of Istanbul, in a rented vehicle. One assailant was linked to a group exploiting religion, though the organization was not named. The Islamic State has previously conducted deadly attacks in Turkey. Two captured attackers were brothers, identified as Onur C and Enes C, with Onur having a criminal record related to drugs. Video footage showed one assailant with an assault rifle and brown backpack exchanging fire with police, while an officer fell and sought cover behind a tree. Forensic experts arrived at the scene following the incident.
