Giorgio Morandi's summer villa to become cultural hub in Grizzana Morandi

The Fondazione Giorgio Morandi has announced a project to transform Villa Veggetti in Grizzana Morandi, the painter's summer home, into a cultural center for exhibitions, artist residencies, and public programs. Founded in 2024 and led by president Elisabetta Brunelli and vice president Maria Teresa Cremonini, the foundation combines research on Morandi's work with contemporary art practices. The villa, built after WWII on land purchased from the Veggetti family, was where Morandi spent summers from 1913 onward, initially as a guest. The restoration, led by architect Federico Poggioli of Studio Poggioli (co-founded with Caterina Poggioli and shortlisted for the EU Mies Awards 2026 alongside Balance Architettura), aims to recover original features and adapt the four-story building for public use. The project extends beyond the villa to activate the surrounding landscape that inspired Morandi's paintings and etchings, linking to existing sites like Casa Studio Morandi and Fienili del Camparo. The hub will host multidisciplinary activities including art, architecture, design, cinema, and music, fostering new interpretations of Morandi's legacy.
