cultural-heritage · 2026-07-09

In 2026, Gibellina, which was reconstructed following the Belice earthquake in 1968, will become Italy's inaugural Capital of Contemporary Art as part of the 'Portami il Futuro' (Bring Me the Future) initiative. This project is backed by the Ministry of Culture, Regione Siciliana, Comune di Gibellina, Museo d'Arte Contemporanea Ludovico Corrao, and Fondazione Orestiadi. Andrea Cusumano will serve as the artistic director, curating a diverse program featuring visual arts, performances, music, and discussions. Notable events will include 'L'Orestea di Gibellina' at the Cretto di Burri, the exhibitions 'Colloqui' and 'Prisenti,' and the 'Scuole a Gibellina' initiative. The 45th Orestiadi Festival will pay tribute to Dario Fo and Arnaldo Pomodoro, alongside future projects like an Art Brut exhibition and collaborations for the 'Natura e cultura' film endeavor.
