French High-Speed Train Collision with Military Truck Kills Driver, Injures Multiple

A TGV high-speed train traveling from Dunkirk to Paris collided with a truck carrying military equipment at a level crossing in Bully-les-Mines, northern France, on Tuesday morning. The 56-year-old train driver died instantly in the impact, which occurred at 6:48am while the train was moving at approximately 160km per hour. Two people sustained critical injuries, though their lives are not in danger, while fourteen others received less serious injuries. The truck driver was taken into police custody following the collision. The force of the crash sent a military vehicle weighing several dozen tonnes flying about 10 meters, landing near a private garden. The train was carrying 243 people at the time of the accident. Local prosecutor Etienne Thieffry described the deceased train driver as an experienced professional.
