Flooding in Dagestan Claims Lives and Displaces Thousands After Dam Failure

Heavy rainfall in Russia's Dagestan republic led to a dam wall breaking, resulting in three fatalities and the evacuation of 4,000 people. The Civil Protection Ministry reported on Monday that a woman and her child died, with others missing. In the Derbent region along the Caspian Sea, approximately 2,000 homes were inundated. Social media footage depicted villages and highways submerged, with overturned vehicles visible. A landslide caused another death, and a multi-story building partially collapsed in Makhachkala, the regional capital. Continuous downpours have exacerbated flooding, submerging entire structures and streets.
