Far-right group targets Saint-Denis basilica reconstruction with 'Remigration' banner

On June 10-11, 2026, scaffolding at the Basilica of Saint-Denis reconstruction site was illegally adorned with a banner proclaiming 'Remigration' by the far-right group 'Objectif Remigration.' The banner was swiftly taken down, and Suivez la Flèche, the project owner, revealed intentions to lodge a complaint regarding unauthorized access and incitement to hatred. Additionally, Bally Bagayoko, the mayor of Saint-Denis, is also preparing to file a complaint. The Fabrique de la Flèche denounced the incident. This reconstruction, initiated in March 2025, marks France's first effort to restore the spire originally constructed in 1219, which was taken down in 1846 due to storm damage. Over five years, artisans aim to recreate the basilica's original design.
