European MON-ART Project Transforms Historic Monasteries into Artist Residencies, Starting in Parma

The MON-ART initiative, part of Creative Europe, is establishing a network of historic monasteries across Europe as cultural hubs for artistic production. Led by the University of Parma's CSAC in Italy, the project involves Hungary, Bulgaria, Albania, and Cyprus through 2028. In Parma, the 13th-century Valserena Abbey will host an artist residency managed by Mimesis Editions, with applications open until May 15, 2026. The program focuses on public art and community engagement, featuring 'Regeneration Artists' who work with local neighborhoods like San Leonardo. The project aims to create sustainable cultural development models and establish a permanent European platform called the MonArt Network.
