EU and UK Increase Financial Support for Ukrainian Cultural Sector

The European Commission and the United Kingdom have announced additional funding to support Ukraine's cultural sector amid the ongoing conflict. EU Culture Commissioner Glenn Micallef pledged €250,000 from the Commission, while British Culture Minister Ian Murray stated the UK would more than double its previous commitment of £200,000 (approximately €230,000) for protecting Ukrainian cultural heritage. This follows over €50 million in EU and member state support provided since the war began. According to UNESCO, more than 500 cultural sites in Ukraine have been damaged during Russia's military aggression, now in its fifth year. Officials emphasized that culture fosters dialogue and shared humanity during divisive times.
