Ecologistas en Acción Archive Donated to Spain's Ministry of Culture

The Spanish Ministry of Culture has incorporated the archive of the environmental confederation Ecologistas en Acción into its Archivo Histórico de los Movimientos Sociales. The donation was formalized in an event at the Archivo General de la Administración, attended by Minister of Culture Ernest Urtasun and Elena Díaz, the confederation's archive manager. The archive spans 50 years (1974–2024) and documents the history of the Spanish environmental movement, including campaigns, research, and social mobilization. It includes founding acts of associations from the 1970s, dossiers on the expansion of Madrid-Barajas Airport, the Chernobyl nuclear accident, and the Maastricht Treaty, as well as photographs, magazines, correspondence, educational materials, posters, and circulars. Ecologistas en Acción was formed in 1998 from the unification of around 300 local groups, including AEDENAT, CODA, COMADEN, CEPA, Ben Magec, and CEAN. The archive will receive technical treatment and be made available for public consultation.
