Dominique Garcia on Archaeology Restoring Justice to the Gauls

Dominique Garcia, president of France's National Institute for Preventive Archaeological Research (Inrap) for 12 years, discusses how modern archaeology has transformed understanding of the Gauls. The European Archaeology Days take place June 12–14, 2026, in France and about thirty countries. Garcia, a professor of protohistory at Aix-Marseille University, argues that archaeology has moved beyond the Indiana Jones stereotype and now provides historical depth to the Gauls that Julius Caesar's writings lacked. He authored "Le jour où je suis devenu archéologue" (Editions de l'Observatoire). The interview highlights how archaeology gives the Gauls a more accurate historical narrative.
