Documentary 'There's No Reward' Explores Graffiti Photography Subculture

Ray Parada, a Queens-based filmmaker, has produced a documentary titled 'There's No Reward' that examines photographers who document graffiti culture. The film highlights individuals such as Fresh Paint NYC, Luna Park, Carnage, Smkjr, and Intospaces, who capture unsanctioned public art in various locations. These photographers often explore abandoned or soon-to-be-demolished spaces to record ephemeral works. Parada began the project around 2015, facing challenges including technical limitations and lost footage, but continued through the COVID-19 pandemic. The documentary notes changes in the graffiti scene over a decade, including the rise of rappel graffiti and the use of drones. It is available for viewing online.
