Documentary on Equipo Crónica Premieres at Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando

The first feature-length documentary about Equipo Crónica, titled 'Equipo Crónica. Arte de trinchera,' will premiere on April 13, 2026, at 11:30 AM in the Sala Guitarte of the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando. Admission is free and open to the public until capacity is reached. Directed by Rafa Sesa and Felipe Villaplana in 2025, the film explores the Spanish art collective active from 1964 to 1981, known for its fierce criticism of the Franco dictatorship through a blend of Pop Art, mass media icons, and art historical references. The group, comprising Rafael Solbes (1940–1981), Juan Antonio Toledo (1940–1995), and Manolo Valdés (born 1942), originated in Valencia and gained international acclaim for its politically committed, militant works. The documentary includes reflections from Valdés, the sole surviving member, now based in New York, alongside experts, friends, and younger artists like urban artist Escif, discussing the collective's influence. A presentation by producer Ignacio Estrela and academic Jordi Teixidor will precede the screening.
