Connie H. Choi Named Chief Curator of Barnes Foundation

Connie H. Choi has been named the chief curator and vice president for art and education at the Barnes Foundation in Philadelphia, a role that has been newly established. Currently serving as curator at the Studio Museum in Harlem, she will assume her new position on September 8, replacing Nancy Ireson, who departed in November. While at the Studio Museum, Choi collaborated with director Thelma Golden and curated "From Now: A Collection in Context" for the museum’s reopening. She also organized a retrospective of Tom Lloyd, the first artist featured at the museum. Choi's notable projects include "Black Refractions: Highlights from The Studio Museum in Harlem" (2019–21), which earned a Henry Allen Moe Prize. At the Barnes, she will manage various programs, including curatorial and educational initiatives. Executive director Thom Collins emphasized her focus on artists from the African diaspora as a significant factor in her selection.
