Colle Oppio Park in Rome Restored with €1.5M PNRR Funding

Restoration of the Parco del Colle Oppio, one of Rome's most precious monumental gardens, has been completed. The project, carried out by the Sovrintendenza Capitolina ai Beni Culturali under the PNRR Caput Mundi program with an investment of approximately €1.5 million, restored the park's two monumental entrance portals, the Ninfeo Fountain, the Fountain of the Amphorae, and the original water supply system designed by architect Raffaele de Vico. The hydraulic system, inactive for years, now features recirculation and water recovery devices for sustainability. The park integrates archaeological remains of the Domus Aurea, Baths of Titus, and Baths of Trajan with a landscape design realized between 1928 and 1936 by de Vico and art historian Antonio Muñoz. The intervention also consolidated structures, restored stone, brick, and cement surfaces, and rebuilt degraded parts. Mayor Roberto Gualtieri stated the park is returned to the city with enhanced artistic and cultural value. The work involved collaboration between the Sovrintendenza Capitolina, the Dipartimento Infrastrutture e Lavori Pubblici, the Dipartimento Tutela Ambientale di Roma Capitale, and technical support from Acea Ato 2 and Areti.
