Clara González's 'Nos recordarán' challenges heteronormative art history

Historian and popularizer Clara González (@Claramore) has published the essay 'Nos recordarán' (Temas de hoy), which argues that the LGTBIQ+ community has transformed the art world from its beginnings to the present. In the book, she reinterprets canonical works, such as Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec's 1892 painting 'En la cama: el beso', commissioned by a Parisian brothel owner to decorate the main salon. The painting shows two nude people embracing and kissing under a sheet; one has long hair, the other short. González asserts that art history has traditionally assumed they are a heterosexual couple, but they were actually two prostitutes sharing the love they did not find with their clients. The book aims to demonstrate that art history has not been as heterosexual as commonly told.
