Chinese Premier Advocates for AI-Enhanced Energy Grid Modernization

Chinese Premier Li Qiang emphasized the development of an advanced, AI-integrated energy system during a three-day visit to Sichuan province, concluding on Wednesday. He highlighted the importance of upgrading the power grid to enhance energy security, support economic growth, and promote green development. Li called on market participants to innovate grid designs, improve coordination and regulation, and create a safer, low-carbon, flexible, and intelligent power infrastructure. According to state media Xinhua, he stated that building a new-type power grid is crucial for ensuring energy security and advancing environmental sustainability. China, while leading globally in renewable energy capacity, faces challenges in aligning renewable resource distribution with electricity demand, with transmission and dispatch limitations hindering efficient use. The initiative aims to modernize the grid by prioritizing innovation and adaptability amid global uncertainties.
