Bullfighter Curro Díaz to Perform Mourning Entry at Las Ventas Following Father's Death

Bullfighter Curro Díaz will make a mourning procession at Madrid's Las Ventas bullring this Resurrection Sunday following the death of his father. Francisco Díaz, father of the Linares-born matador, passed away on Good Friday at age 77 in his hometown of Linares. He was described as the fundamental pillar in his son's career both as a bullfighter and as a person. Curro Díaz will be accompanied by fellow bullfighters Rafa Serna and Diego San Román, facing bulls from Martín Lorca. This marks his return to Madrid after his previous appearance during the San Isidro festivities on May 25th with bulls from Fuente Ymbro. The 2023 season also began for Díaz at Las Ventas on Resurrection Sunday, where he delivered notable performances against bulls from Las Ramblas and El Tajo, receiving two ovations despite difficulties with the sword. His past season included significant triumphs, most notably on September 28th in Úbeda where he faced six bulls from different ranches and earned five ears from animals of Fuente Ymbro, Daniel Ruiz, and Victorino Martín. He has exited through the main gate of Las Ventas twice: first in 2007 after cutting an ear from a Los Ronceles bull, and again in 2016 when he earned ears from a Gavira bull and a Torrealba substitute.
