Bayeux Agreement May Pave Way for Parthenon Marbles Loan, Says British Museum Director

Nicholas Cullinan, the director of the British Museum, indicated that the recent deal with France regarding the Bayeux Tapestry might pave the way for a possible loan of the Parthenon Marbles to Greece. In an interview with the Financial Times, he highlighted the museum's willingness to engage in discussions about disputed artworks, including the Parthenon Marbles, which Greece has been advocating for. The Bayeux Tapestry is presently located in France, and the agreement could entail a loan or an exchange. Cullinan stated that the museum will "always remain open for dialogue" on these issues. The Parthenon Marbles, which the museum claims were acquired legally during the Ottoman era, have been sought for return by Greece for many years.
