Bank of England Announces Wildlife Theme for Next Banknote Series Following Public Consultation

The Bank of England has selected wildlife as the theme for its upcoming series of banknotes, based on public consultation results from 2025. The nature theme received the highest support among respondents, with particular emphasis on native UK species. A second consultation will occur this summer to gather specific suggestions for wildlife imagery, assisted by an expert panel including Gordon Buchanan MBE, Miranda Krestovnikoff, and Nadeem Perera. The new designs will incorporate advanced security features while maintaining accessibility. Victoria Cleland, Chief Cashier, noted that the theme supports authentication goals and celebrates UK biodiversity. The banknotes will continue to feature the monarch's portrait and represent all Home Nations. The design and production process is expected to take several years before issuance.
