Australian Museum's FrogID Citizen Science Project Achieves Record Participation in 2021

The Australian Museum's FrogID citizen science initiative recorded over 37,000 frog observations during its November 2021 event, marking a significant increase from previous years. More than 4,600 participants across Australia used the free smartphone app to document frog calls, contributing to a national database that now contains over half a million records. The project has documented 210 frog species, representing 85% of known Australian species, and provided data on threatened populations and newly recognized species. This extensive data collection aids conservation efforts by tracking frog distributions and responses to environmental threats like bushfires and disease outbreaks.
